About Us

NRGISE has been developed and is actively maintained by the research group Smart Grid Integration at Fraunhofer ISE.

Our primary goal in making NRGISE Open available is to support academia, research, education, and other non-commercial use. For this reason, NRGISE Open is licensed under CC BY-NC-SA.

If you would like to use NRGISE Open for commercial purposes, we offer separate commercial licensing options. Please get in touch with us to discuss the appropriate license for your use case.

Our Other Tools

NRGISE Open is part of a broader toolbox of models, optimization methods, and software developed by our research group.

These Include:

  • NRGISE Trading: Energy and balancing market models combined with multi-market trading algorithms. This allows us to simulate the operation and economics of large-scale storage and co-located PV + storage systems.
  • NRGISE.ONE: Integrated planning and control of storage-based energy systems, bringing the models and optimization methods used during system planning into real-world operation.
  • NRGISE.Plan: The web-based planning application. Building on NRGISE Open and NRGISE Trading, it provides a convenient, user-friendly interface for configuring storage-based energy systems, running simulations, and performing technical and economic planning tasks with immediate access to results.
  • SynPRO: Scientifically validated synthetic load and generation profiles for heating, electricity and E-mobility.
  • OptiCharge: Optimized charging schedules for individual electric vehicles and fleets, supporting cost- and PV-optimized charging under grid constraints for uni- and bidirectional operation. Load and parking-time forecasts enable predictive planning of charging schedules.

Working With Us

We are always interested in bringing our models and expertise into new projects. In particular, you can work with us on:

  • Simulation studies: Techno-economic simulation and optimization of energy systems, ranging from commercial storage applications to EV charging infrastructure and large-scale battery storage. Our particular expertise includes optimal charging infrastructure and storage sizing for EV fleets, as well as market participation and profitability of utility-scale storage and co-located PV + storage projects.
  • Research collaborations: Joint research on optimisation and control of local energy systems, and related topics.
  • Research proposals: We regularly participate in publicly funded research projects and are interested in industry partners for upcoming proposals.
